How to Succeed in an FVS Course:
Goals
Goals are important in keeping you focused. What are your long term goals? What do you want to accomplish this semester? Use this end-goal to set weekly and daily goals. Be realistic when setting your goals. How much can you reasonably accomplish in this time period?
Strategies
Be sure that you know how to log-in, where to locate your assignments, how to access your grades, etc. Ask your teacher for advice on how to prepare for assessments and know what learning and study strategies work best for you.
Time Management
Decide when, how often, and for how long you will work on your coursework. Take into consideration your other obligations and be sure to allow some time for relaxation. Ideally, you will set aside a specific time each day to dedicate to each course. Develop a habit so that you know “this is work time.”
Be Self-Aware
Do you fully understand or do you have a few questions? Do you know what you are supposed to do? Could you use more practice before moving on? Only you can know what is going on in your head.
Ask for Help
If you aren’t sure, ask! It’s better to clear things up early than to wait and realize later that you had it wrong all along. Reach out to your teacher through Genius, email, call, or text. While the bulk of your instruction comes from the online platform, your FVS teacher is an expert on the content and is available to explain and clarify any material with which you may struggle.
